HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 15 1966 CMMinutes of the recessed meeting of February 8, 1966, of the Board of ~rustees of the ¥il].age of Chubbuck, held in the ~nicipal Building of the Village of Chubbuck on February 15, 1966. Present- Underwood, Buchanan, Henry, Hillman and Ward and::B.A.McDevitt. Called to order 6:05 P.M. Pf~rpose- Further discussion on opening of Bars on Sunday. Residents present were allowed to voice their opinions. Those opposed and their reasons as follows: Max Parrish - Chubbuck is becoming the gutter of Pocatello. Paul Thompson- Fort Hall Agency prefers to keep them closed according to Jimmy Dan. George Shiozawa- Tyhee farmers petition caiims their help does not come to work on Monday. Dwain Kind,horn- Now that there is ~ new Church on Whitaker road, they want them closed so g~ople will not have to pass the bars on their way to church. Rod Parrisn-Some businessmen in Chubbuck are not residents of Chubbuck. Long discussion by the Board members followed. Henry asked what is the difference between Sunday and Monday. If it is wrong to drink on Sunday then it sh&uld be wrong any other day of the week. If the Bars can be open on week-days then why not on Sunday. Buchanan- if the bars are run right they should not hurt anybody. Hillman- make rules and r:~gulations and if one man violates;: then he should be closed and the others allowed to stay open. Ail should not suffer for the acts of one. Henry - either close all businesses or open all businesses. More discussion from the floor. Thain Christensen - Conditions did not change before and doubts if they will now. Hillard Jones- Petition states how he strands. Lena Hageman- Road conditions are not like they were before Interstate was opened. Don ~tinger - wan~ protections of Children in Chubbuck. Henry made a motion that the Board table it for further study. Motion died for lack of a second. Hil]man made a Motion to open the Bars on Sunday with instructions for the Attorney to draw up an Ordinance in accordance therewith. Motion seconded by Buchanan. By request- roll-call vote on Motion as follows: Buchanan-yes, Hillman-yes, Underwood-gno~ Henry-yes, and Ward-no. Meeting recessed at 7:00 P.M. till f~rther notice if necessary.
