Economic Development Update
Devin Hillam, Community Services & Economic Development Director
1/25/22
• 0 RFIs came from the state and BDC since the last report.
• 1 design review meeting was held in February 2022 for a multi -family residential complex.
• 1 new private site selectors reached out to identify land for commercial uses. Property and
contact information were conveyed. Several phone calls and personal meetings occurred between
my staff and I with individuals interested in locating new businesses throughout the city.
• Once Olive Garden corporate has identified a general contractor, the City will be able to approve
the demolition and building permits for the announced restaurant that will replace the former Red
Lobster building.
• Year-to-date, the Building Division has issued 12 new single-family residential permits and 7 new
four-plex permits.
• On March 31, 2022, the incentive discount for water and sewer capacity fees will expire and fees
will return to normal. While I believe the incentive has been a great tool coming out of the COVID
shutdowns, I do not advocate for its renewal.
• Pocatello MSA (which includes Chubbuck) economic development trends.
o Federal Reserve (St. Louis) Unemployment Rate (seasonally adjusted rates
Gathered 12/20/21):
• December 2021- 2.4%
• November 2021- 2.6%
• October 2021- 2.8%

• The CDA is eager to redevelop its properties in the Chubbuck Village (downtown) area once the
plan and associated code are adopted. In coming months, the CDA and City will coordinate to ready
the former Mckee properties so that RFPs can be published.
