AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHUBBUCK, IDAHO
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 148 AND ORDINANCE
NO. 167 OF THE CITY OF CHUBBUCK, IDAHO, BY
PROVIDING FOR'ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS REGARDING
DESIGN AND REINFORCEMENT OF WALLS AND ADDITIONAL
MEANS OF EMERGENCY EGRESS FROM BASEMENTS: AND
PROVIDING WHEN THISORD INANCE SHALL BECOME
EFFECTIVE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CHUBBUCK, IDAHO:
SECTION l: Amendment to Uniform Building Code. Ordinance
No. 148 of the City of Chubbuck, Idaho, enacted on the 24th
day of February, 1976, adopting the Uniform Building Code
(with provisions for adopting subsequent editions of the Code
by resolution), is hereby amended by adding thereto sections
2(A) and 2(B), to be inserted following the existing Section 2
of said Ordinance as follows:
"SECTION 2A. Amendments to Section 2614 (d),
1979 Uniform Buildin~ Code "Design and
Reinforcement of Walls." and to comparable
section(s) of subsequent editions of Code.
(a) Not less than four bars of #4 rebar
shall be placed horizontally in a
continuous manner in each full wall,
with all joints lapped a minimum of 15
inches; provided, however, (a) that the
builder, in his discretion and with
approval of the city building official,
may place not less than two bars of
#4 rebar in each such wall and not less
than two bars of #4 rebar in the footing
for the wall, and (b) that in the case of
a half wall, the builder shall place not
less than two bars of #4 rebar in each

such wall, and rebar in the footing shall
not be required unless deemed necessary
by the city building official due to said
conditions or other factors.
For windows over 4 feet in width, appropriate
design shall b~ made to transfer weight
of wall and roof loads over window to walls.
(c) Three #4 rebar shall be placed in the wall
where stairs are to be poured adjoining
the wall. Bars are to extend a minimum
of 2 feet into the wall and 2 feet into

If floor and footings are poured at the
same time (Monolithic pour), footings are
to be 12 inches deep by 16 inches wide
taperin9 at a 45 degree angle toward the
floor side. Vertical steel 24 inches long
must be placed in f6otings to anchor wall.
#4 bars at 32 inch centers or #5 bars at 48
inch centers are required.
SECTION 2(B). Amendment to Section 1204, 1979
Uniform Building Code. At the time of con-
struction, all finished or unfinished basements
must be provided with at least one means of
emergency egress in addition to the main door.
The additional means of emergency egress ma~
be by an additional door, or by a window not
less than 30 inches wide and 20 inches high,
which window or door shall be located as far as
practicable toward the opposite end of the
basement from the main door.
SECTION 2: Amendment to Life Safety Code. At the time
of construction, all finished or unfinished basements must
be provided with at least one means of emergency egress in
addition to the main door..The additional means of emergency
egress may be by an additional door, or by a window not
less than 30 inches wide and 20 inches high, which window
or door shall be located as far as practicable toward the
opposite end of the basement from the main door.
SECTION 3: Effective Date, This Ordinance shall become
effective upon its passage, approval and publication as
provided by law.
PASSED BY THE COUNCIL AND APPROVED BY THE MAYOR of'the
City of Chubbuck, Idaho this 54 .day of June
1980.
