HomeMy WebLinkAbout05Vol. 8 Issue S City Hall 5160 Yellowstone / PO Box 5604 237-2400 May 2013 Message from the Mayor: Cooler temperatures and the threat of snow just seem to want to linger this spring. At least we had a close to normal water year this winter and this type of weather allows the snow pack to melt slower so it is more manageable. We hope our sputtering weather soon gives way to more consistent spring days. We are joining with the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pocatello again this year in a Community Wide Clean Up Day that is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th. We have included in this letter information on what we as a City will have available that day to assist you. We encourage you to perhaps get together as neighbors and take on a project that goes beyond your own yard. Plan to participate in some way that day! Let me just give a couple of reminders. As the weather gets better and evenings are longer, we again have more chil- dren present outside in our parks and neighborhoods. The speed limit in our residential neighborhoods is 20 MPH. Please be observant not only of the speed limit but also of children and their unpredictable behavior. Our City, for the most part, is designed around neighborhood parks that accommodate children at play. Please encourage them to use these facilities rather than playing games in the street. Let's all work together to have a safe summer. Thanks again for your participation in any activity or event that betters our community. Each of you can and do as- sist in continuing to make Chubbuck a great place to live and do business. Mayor England 2013 City of Chubbuck Clean Up Day Saturday, May 4th From: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm There will be containers at Cotant Park, (corner of Victor and Teton), and the City Offices, (5160 Yellowstone Ave). Items that WILL NOT be accepted are tires, paint, oil, chemicals, food, kitchen garbage, refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers. For more information, call the Public Works office at 237-2430. This is a great opportunity to get our yards ready to enjoy. You may have driven past and recognized the building shown in the photo, however, few people in this area know what it was built for and what its purpose is today. The family of the late James H. Brady, former Governor of Idaho (1908-1911) and U.S. Senator (1913-1918) had the building built in his honor. The building took three years to complete and was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1922. This was the same day the Lincoln Memorial was - dedicated. The building originally served as a mausoleum 3 for Mr. and Mrs. Brady; however, in 1959, their remains were interred in the cemetery. More information can be found at the City of Pocatello website: http:// www.pocatello.us/Cemetery/cemetery_brady.htm. Each year on Memorial Day, members of the Friends of the Cemetery Committee staff the building and provide tours. The tour includes an opportu- nity to view a video tribute that chronicles the history of this edifice. This year is no different, and visitors will also be able to enjoy light refreshments as they visit. The hours it will be available this year, Monday, May 27, 2013, will be from 10:00-4:00.
