HomeMy WebLinkAbout05City of Chubbuck Newsletter Vol. 5 Issue 5 May 2010 Message from the Mayor: Cooler temperatures and the threat of snow just seem to want to linger this spring. It would be nice if we could get our snow in December and January instead of April and May. I hope our sputtering weather soon gives way to more consistent spring days. We are joining with the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pocatello again this Spring in a community wide cleanup project. In hopes of having a little better weather, the date has been moved back a couple of weeks this year to Saturday, May 22nd. We have included in this letter, information on what we as a city will have available that day to assist you. We encourage you to get together as neighbors and take on a project that goes beyond your own yard. There will be a community kick off that morning in the 400 block of the UP parking lot in Old Town Pocatello at 8:45 AM. It will include a free breakfast from 8:00-10:30 AM and the opening of this season's Farmers Market from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Additionally, this year we will conclude the day with a barbeque and gathering at Cotant Park at 3:00 PM. Hopefully, starting the day's activities in Pocatello and concluding in Chubbuck will encourage a community wide effort. Plan to participate some way that day! Again, we remind you that, with spring weather, more children will be out and about in our neighborhoods. Boys baseball and girls softball programs began playing in April, then tiger/tee-ball and roller hockey are coming soon. There is much to be positive about as we anticipate another great summer season. Thanks again for your participation in our community. buck a great place to live and do business. CONSTRUCTION. GARBAGE CART TIP Every year, we have some calls about waste stuck in the bottom of the cart that did not come loose when it was dumped. The best way to prevent gar- bage from sticking is to bag everything you put in the cart. This is a great way to make use of those leftover plastic grocery bags. Of course, you might want to use something larger for those grass clippings. Grass clip- pings are notorious for sticking solidly in the cart. Bagging not only prevents smelly goo from coating the container, it also keeps trash from flying away as it is dumped out into the truck. Another tip is to spray the bottom of the cart with cooking spray to keep trash from sticking. Washing out a dirty cart is the last thing anyone would want to be doing on Saturday, so we hope these hints save you some cleaning time!
