Box 5604 • 5160 Yellowstone Ave., Chubbuck, ID 83202-0006 MAYOR'SMESSAGE I am forming a committee to assist the city personal in the needs of the community. Those of you living in CChubbuck, in your neighbor- hoods, observe concerns that y 4,perhaps we do not see. I want this committee to review city pai' c['&ei ds, the type of development needed in the parks: playground equipment, tennis courts, etc. I need your input. I also need advice from those who are interested in a skateboard facility. In our last letter I talked about our parks and park development. We will be developing two new parks and an addition to another this season. We plan to add additional playground equipment in various parks. I need your input on these projects. The two new parks and the addition to the existing park are located east of Hiline Road. These two new parks are the first we have been able to construct east of Hiline. BASEBALL I Baseball time is rapidly approaching. Registration is at the Pine Ridge Mall. The dates for girls and boys are as follows: March 18 9 AM - 5 PM March 22 5 PM - 9 PM March 25 9 AM - 5 PM 1 With spring just around the corner and construction projects on your mind, Mr. Sempeck, of the city building department, wants to remind you that most construction require building permits. The building department is here to help you with code requirements and the inspection process. Most insurance companies rely on building departments for documentation of projects. If your project require permits and you do not have one, your insurance coverage could be in jeopardy. Call 237-2430 for determina- tion of your permit requirements. Phone (208) 237-2400 '1 Last fall, the Police Department received several calls concerning speeding vehicles on Brundage street. The vehicles were using the road as a bypass for the West Chubbuck and Hiline intersection. In response, a week long speed survey was conducted using the Community Policing Divisions Traffic Recorder. The results of the survey not only confirmed that there was a speeding problem on that street, it told us which times of the day were prone to the problem and allowed us to distribute our manpower accordingly. During that week long period, the average speed was in excess of 30 mph. For several following weeks, officers conducted aggres- sive enforcement in the area, then a second speed survey was conducted. The second survey showed a dramatic decrease in speed— an average of 21 mph. While we understand that this reduction may only be temporary, we feel that it is a step in the right direction in making our streets safer, especially residential streets. Both the Traffic Record- ing equipment and the Radar trailer are valuable tools. To have either of these in your neighborhood or for other traffic concerns please contact Officer Young or Corporal Butterfield at the police department. The best way to prevent garbage from sticking is to bag everything in the cart. This is a great way to use leftover plastic grocery bags. Of course, you will want to use something larger for those grass clippings. Clippings are notorious for sticking solidly. Bagging also prevents smelly goo from coating the container, as well as keeping trash from flying away as it is dumped. Spraying the bottom of the cart with cooking spray also keeps trash from sticking. Washing out a dirty cart is the last thing anyone would want to be doing on Saturday, so we hope these hints save you some cleaning time! In the coming years we will be changing the water meters in Chubbuck over to new electronic water meters. Sections of Chubbuck have already been completed. If you have any questions or concerns about your water meter- DO NOT access the water meter can yourself. Call the city, and we will be glad to answer any questions or come out to help you. The new electronic water meters have attachments that can be easily damaged. If you damage them, it will be costly to you. Water meter reading will be starting in March. We will try to keep the grass clear around the lids of water meter cans to keep lids secure. We have many eyes in our city, so if you notice a water meter can lid off or missing, please contact us so we can fix it. Also, we would like to keep the area around and above your water meter clear of landscaping, cars, and debris as we may need to access your water meter can. Thank you.
