HomeMy WebLinkAbout012 02 71Minutes of Planning & Zoning Commission meeting December 2, 1971 Meeting called to order by Chairman Delmar Peters at 7:00 P. M. Those present were Delmar Peters, Rodney Parrish, Allen Martin, Dwain Kinghorn and Jack Menard. Bob Grimes representing Boise Cascade Corp. ~nd Mr. Wheeler from Boise presented plans for a Circle K store to be built at the northwest corner of Hawthorne and West ~hubbuck road. They also e~plaimed what they thought was the need for store was to the people. George Shiozawa from school board stated his views against the store. It would be a bad influence on the school children and also a traffic problem. Mrs Chester Loveland stated the area was a ver~. busy corner already and with a store there it would be too c~e~ed..It would also devalue their property. Joe Dalton stated that he thought it should be kept residential because of the homes involved. Steven Millington stated that most of the business would be before and after normal shopping hours and would be a bad situation. He also mentioned a Circle K store that had closed at the corner of Maple and Roosevelt and how unsightly it looked boarded up. Ralph Curtis from Morgage Insurance corpation said the~e~was~nOei~entton~ anything unsightly about it. Mrs Quentin Harrel it would ~aw~W~g kind of people if they sold beer or wine. Mrs Bert Merritt, Bob Garrett and ~en Carter voiced similar opinions. Milton Klein stated that he thought that the two stores we already have in Chubbuck t were adequate. Dwain Kingh~rn commented that he appreciated the comments and interest, Allen Martin also agreed to this. Rodney Parrish stated that this corner was the most discussed in Chubbuck and would be in the future. He also said it would be unlikely that a home would be built there. It ~as zoned and approved for duplex apartments. Delmar Peters said he had recieved a lot of phone calls against the store going in from people not connected le. ally with the property. Allen Martin made a motion that the city deny the variance. Rodney Parrish seconded the motion. Delmar Peters and Dwain Kinghorn were in agreement. Jack Menard asked to be disqualified. Jack Menard reco~ende~ they accept the Country Acres ~th addition presented by Fred Chase. Also to accept the roll type curb. Also accept the suggestion by Larry Perkins for sidewalks. Rodney Parrish 2nd the Motion. The motion was unanimcus. A letter from JohnValenty dated November 26, was read. ' ' ' o~ ~m~. They sug&ested another letter be sent to Mr. Valenty stating i~es not comply with the letter sent October 5, and application is presented and plans submitted are adequate. He must come in and present the plans to the Zoning Commission or they will not even consider the plans, Jack Menard asked that meetinz be adjourned was was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
