JULY 5, 1979
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission,
held in the city municipal building, July 5, 1979.
Meeting called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Acting Chairman Dwain Kinghorn.
Present: Acting Chairman Dwain Kinghorn, Commission Members: Becky
Hopkins, Dell Peters and Mike Metcalfe and Secretary Dorothy Ward. Janet
Williams was excused.
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission held
June 7, 1979 were read by the secretary. Acting Chairman Kinghorn asked for
any additions or corrections. There being none, Mike Metcalfe made motion
to accept minutes as read. Dell Peters seconded the motion. All voted in
favor.
OTHER BUSINESS: KAREN & ROBERT KENNEDY, YEARLY REVIEW, OF VARIANCE to
allow them to operate a drapery business at 5122 Hawthorne Road, in an
area zoned, Combined Residentail (R-2).
Mrs. Kennedy was present and said they had provided for off street parking,
and that they had very little walk in traffic.
Dell Peters said he had observed there seemed to be no, problems with the
business in this area. There was no one to protest the extension of variance.
Becky Hopkins reminded Mrs. Kennedy there is ordinances governing the size of
signs; if they should have to replace the sign they have they should contact
the city offices.
Dell Peters made motion to grant an extension of the variance of Karen &
Robert Kennedy to operat~a drapery buSiness at 5122 Hawthorne Road, subject
to a yearly review. Becky Hopkins seconded the motion, voting was unanimous.
MRS. MARGARET OHLIN, REVIEW OF VARIANCE TO ALLOW HER TO KEEP ANIMALS AT HER
residence, 4855 Joy, in an area zoned Combined Residential (R-2).
Mrs. Ohlin was present and she said they had four ducks and one rabbit, she
said they were pets and they did not intend on raising any more. There was
no one to protest the extension of the variance.
Mike Metcalfe made motion to grant extension of variance, subject to a yearly
review, for Margaret Ohlin to keep animals at her residence. Dell Peters
seconded the motion. All voted in favor.
PUBLIC HEARING ITEM: JOHN O. COTANT, JR., VARIANCE TO CONSTRUCT AN ADDITION
to his present facility for continuance of existing business known as Cotant
Truck Lines,Inc. Property is located in an area zoned Combined Residential
(R-2L).
Mr. Cotant was not present at meeting. Commission members felt they needed a
drawing to show the work to be done
BeCky ~opkins made motion to table ~equest for variance of John O. Cotant, Jr.
until he Supplies more detailed information, and attends or sends representative
to meeting.
PUBLIC HEARING ITEM: JOHN O. COTANT, JR.
Dell Peters seconded the motion. Hopkins, yes; Metcalfe, yes; Peters, yes
Kinghorn, yes.
Mike Metcalfe made motion to adjourn at 8:45 p.m. Becky Hopkins seconded
the motion. All voted in favor.
