I am reaching out to get a conversation started regarding a plan for improving the look and feel of the
Yellowstone corridor.
As you know, the Yellowstone URA is primarily focused on improvements along the Yellowstone corridor.
This corridor is a first impression for visitors and a daily touchpoint for businesses and residents. I have
received calls and engaged in personal conversations from both residents and businesses asking for
increased efforts to hold properties accountable for basic maintenance. I believe we have an
opportunity to be more intentional about how that corridor looks and functions, especially when it
comes to landscaping and overall presentation.
My thought is to start simple and collaborative, seeking buy -in and participation.
The first step would be individual communication, working directly with property owners and businesses
along the corridor, inviting them to be part of improving the area. I think we can get a lot of traction just
by engaging people and setting a clear vision. This would be a "start with cooperation" approach.
Second, if needed, we could look at putting some tools in place to support those efforts. One idea would
be partnering with the Chubbuck Development Authority to offer a grant / match program similar to the
current fagade improvement program, but focused on landscaping, basic cleanup, planting, irrigation,
screening, etc. If we can lower the barrier for folks to make improvements, I think they will step up.
Finally, code enforcement would still be there if needed, but more as a last step, not the first move.
At this point, I'm not proposing a finished plan. Instead, I'm looking to get your thoughts and see
how you'd like to shape this. I think there's a good opportunity to make a visible, positive impact if we
approach it the right way.
I intend to have this be a discussion at our June 17th, study session. I am excited to start this conversation
and look forward to an open dialogue with you.
