HomeMy WebLinkAboutVol. 8, Issue 3 Friends, This time of year, we often find ourselves thinking about patriotism and being a patriot. I have pondered this over the last few days and have asked myself just what it means to be a patriot? I would love to briefly share my conclusions with you. I believe that to be a true patriot two elements come into play. First is the love and respect that you have for your fellow countrymen, and second is your love and respect for your country. Within these two elements there are two aspects to each of them, the past and the present. Let us consider the past. The study of history is an interesting undertaking. I have often said, history according to who? There must be a foundation of faith and trust in our understanding of history. I sincerely believe in the history of this country as I was taught as a youth by my family and trusted teachers. I believe that good men and women in the early history of America came together with honest intent to create a nation founded on principles of freedom. Through their collective efforts they established the greatest nation that has ever existed. They committed their all in love and respect for each other. True patriots will honor their founding fathers and mothers. Now to the present. We are fortunate to live in the great free land that they sacrificed to provide. We should also be willing to sacrifice in maintaining the greatness of this free land. We know our rights, but do we know and accept our responsibilities? We have substantial responsibilities to this country and most importantly to our fellow countrymen. We are remarkably diverse as a nation, and this is a good thing. In our differences we should show love and respect to one another. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Our accepted differences make us stronger. We should always remember this true statement, “United we stand, divided we fall.” Let us unite in love and respect for one another and this blessed land so we will stand tall and free as only true patriots can. God Bless The USA. If you see anyone or anything unusual or you suspect something isn’t right please, immediately call the Police Dispatch at 208-237-7173. The heat of summer poses life threatening situations to people and animals. Please do not leave your children or pets sitting in cars even if you are just running into the store. Also, remember that your pets if left outside will need shade and fresh water at all times. Call Animal Control at 208-239-3249. Message from Utility Billing Department: Attention Utility Customers Has your contact information changed? Please make sure we have your current contact information to insure that important account information and notices are able to be received by you. Call Utility Billing at 208-417-7175 or email utilitybilling@cityofchubbuck.us to update your contact information. Message from the Chubbuck Water Department: It’s sprinkler time!!! As the weather has warmed up and our yards need water, we’d like everyone to be aware of a few things. When a new automatic sprinkler system is installed or modified, a plumbing permit from the City is required. Every automatic sprinkler system connected to the city’s drinking water system requires a backflow prevention device that is required to be tested following installation or modifications and annually. All of this is needed to help ensure our drinking water remains safe. More information about this can be found on the Water Department’s page on the City’s website.
