This report contains important information about the qual- tty of your drinking water. We are required to prepare and distribute this Consumer Confidence Report. It is part of the requirements of the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Ad. The City is committed to providing safe drinking water to its customers. The City has attempted to make this report Informable and readable. This report shows our water quality and what it means. If you have questions about the report or your drinking water, please cell the City Public Works offices at (206) 237-2430, and further ass6lanoe will be provided. If you would like to have Input on how your drinking water is provided, you may either call the number above, or attend the City Council meetings. The Chubbuck City Council meets at 7:30 P.M. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The meetings are held in the City Offices located at 5160 Yellowstone Ave. Please feel free to participate in these meetings. Your drinking water comes from four wells drilled into the Lower Pcxtneuf River Aquifer. They are located throughout the city. This water is very high quality and the only treatment given is to chlorinate f. Wall No. 4 does have a special treatment system. It Is described below. The only man -caused contaminant In the water Is Teirachloroettrylene (PCE or PERC). The source of PCE contamination is unknown at this time. We are able to treat the water to remove high concentrations of PCE. The City has constructed a treatment plant at Well No. 4 that removes PCE using an air stripping process. The City is pleased to report that our drinking water meets, or exceeds all federal and state drinking water standards. The City routinely monitors for constituents In your drinking water. Benchmark testing has also been done for additional constituents. This is done in accordance with State and Federal laws. All drinking water, including bottled water, may be reasonably expected to contain at least small amounts of some constituents. ft Is important to remember that the presence of these constituents does not necessarily pose a health risk. More information about contaminants and health effects can be obtained by calling the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800- 4264791). Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Nitrate In drinking water at levels above 10 ppm Is a health risk for infants of less than six months of age. High nitrate levels in drinking water can cause blue baby syndrome. Contarninants that may be present in source water before we treat It include: Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may corse from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural live- stock operations, and wildlife. Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturally-ocarring or result from urban storm water runoff, Industrial, or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining, or farming. Pesticides and herbicldas, which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture, urban slormwater runoff, and residential uses. Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and can also come from gas stations, urban stormwater runoff, and septic systems. Radioactive contaminants, which can be naUaally-occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities. The table to the right shows the results of our water quality monitoring for the peri- od January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2004. The state allows us to monitor for some contaminants less than once per year because the concentrations of these con- taminants do not change frequenty, Some of our date, though representative, are more than one year old. We have included test results for only those constituents found in our drinking water. Most con- stituents tested for were not found. In the table, you will find marry terms and abbre- viations you might not be familiar with. To help you better understand these terms, we have provided the following definitions: Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG): The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk lo health. MCLG's allow for a margin of safety. Non -Detects (ND): Laboratory analy- sis indicates that the constituent is not present.
