Welcome: President Kevin Satterlee
City of Pocatello
Mayor Brian Blad asked how the City leaders could help the
School District, and Idaho State University with growth and
recruitment.
Idaho State University (ISU)
President Kevin Satterlee stated that "We as a Community are
going to do great things". President Satterlee would like to create
a friendlier student based community around Idaho State
University Campus, with more amenities, a better transportation
plan to attract students, and to help with retention issues.
President Satterlee stated that ISU had 1231 freshman enrolled in
the fall of 2016 and lost 700 of those students the following year.
President Satterlee wants to work with Community leaders
towards a solution for a stronger College Community.
School District
Superintendent Doug Howell stated that they are working with
developers to plan for future growth. Currently they are
experiencing the largest growth in the Tyhee area. Mr. Howell
stated that the School District is looking for 80 acres preferably in
Chubbuck for a future High School and Middle School. Mr.
Howell also stated that they are working with ISU to create a
Career Technical High School. The School District is selling the
old Bonneville Elementary School building which is currently
being used for storage. They also have started Phase 1 of the
Pocatello High School Renovation; Phase 2 will be going before
the Historical Society for approval.
City of Chubbuck
Mayor Kevin England gave an update on the City's new City
Hall, D.A.R.E Graduation, an art partnership with Highland High
School & the Chubbuck Development Authority (CDA), Fire
District Contracts, and the New Day/Creative Community.
Bannock County
Commissioner Ernie Moser gave an update on the crisis center. The
crisis center had 124 clients in its first two months. The County will
also be creating an 11 member board.
Commissioner Terrel N. Tovev stated that then hired Guv Patterson
to run the wellness complex, amphitheater, and event center. Thev
have also completed a paved lighted walking path around the soccer
fields, wellness complex, and RV Park.
