HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 Friends, What a beautiful summer we have just experienced. I hope that each of us had the opportunity to do some things that enriched our lives. We surely have been busy here at city hall. Many wonderful things are taking place from refurbishing of neighborhoods to our work preparing for the Siphon/Northgate Interstate Exchange to working on plans for Chubbuck’s own Medical Campus just to name a couple. We are in the process of taking care of the facility needs of the city. We are planning for a new city hall, new animal control facility, new police headquarters, and a new fire station. We have recognized that as a community we need a vital, vibrant city center or down town. We are in the process of working with the community at large to see this develop. I encourage each of you to play your part in helping this become a reality that will give us all pride in our city and a place we will all be able to enjoy as a down town. By the time you get this letter we will have had the Groundbreaking for the Chubbuck Medical Campus on Friday September 21 from 4-6pm. What a wonderful blessing this is going to provide for this entire Region. Dr. Rahim has made it clear that his desire is that this will be a medical facility that the people of this city will feel ownership in. Let’s all do our part to make this happen. Autumn is here and I hope we all find time to get out and enjoy the beautiful changes in nature that occur this time of year. I love the changing of the seasons. Each season change is beautiful in its own right. Isn’t this an exciting time to live in Chubbuck? I hope all is well with each of you. Keep smiling. Some safety tips are the same rega rdless of the time of year, but many safety concerns are seasonal, particularly those that involve keeping your home warm. Time Changes Mean Battery Changes Get in the habit of changing the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors every year when changing the clocks for Daylight Savings Time. Home Heating Tips No matter what type of device you use to heat your home, making sure your heating devices and/or systems are in good working or- der is an important part of learning some fall fire safety tips. Many things can go wrong with heating equipment during the s pring and summer months. Verify that everything you need to keep your home warm throughout fall and winter is in good working order be- fore you experience the first cold snap of the season. Central Heating System Safety Tips Get your central heating system cleaned, inspected and serviced by a certified HVAC (heating, venting and air conditioning) contractor every year before using it. If you have a gas heater, make sure that you have a sufficient quantity of fully functioning carbon monoxide detectors installed in your home. Space Heater Safety Tips Make sure that any space heaters are surrounded by at least three feet of empty space. Never place clothing or any other objects on a space heater to dry. Do not place space heaters near furniture or drapery. Turn space heaters off when you leave the house or go to bed. Avoid storing any combustible items near heaters. Fireplace Safety Tips Get your chimney inspected each year to make sure that it is safe. Hire a chimney sweep to clean out your chimney every fall. Repair any cracks in fireplaces. Use fireplace screens to keep sparks and fire debris inside the fireplace. Do not every use gasoline to start a fire in the fireplace. Never leave a fire unattended. Make sure that combustible materials are not stored within three feet of your fireplace. For natural gas fireplaces, get all connections and lines inspected before use each season. Remember that outdoor fireplaces can be just as dangerous as indoor units, and observe all safety precautions when using them. *Holiday’s & Garbage Service Christmas Day, the City Offices will be closed, Tuesday, December 25. Garbage service will be 1 day late. The City will collect extra bags of trash for 1 week following Christmas ONLY. Please place bags by your regular garbage cart for pickup. The City will also collect Christmas trees, please put your tree out on your regular garbage day and we will come pick it up during the month of January. 2019 New Year’s Day, the City Offices will be closed, Tuesday, January 1. Garbage service will be 1 day late. A Note from Chubbuck Police Department The school year has begun, which means kids are going to be on, near or in the streets going to school. The Chubbuck Police De- partment would like to remind drivers that children can be expected near school zones and streets near schools. Please moder ate your speed in school zones and in neighborhoods and look out for children. With the approach of the holidays we need to keep in mind a few issues that may save the day. When shopping avoid leaving va lua- bles in your vehicle in plain sight. Keep your vehicle doors locked while gone and keep an eye out for suspicious behavior a round you. At home, lock your doors and if away consider using a timer on your lights at night. Animal issues sometimes arise when our four footed friends create nuisances such as barking and running at large. Please be mind- ful of your neighbor by keeping your animal ’s noise levels at a respectful minimum and by keeping them on your own property. Barking dogs if found to be an annoyance whether it bothers the owner or not can result in a citation. Please be aware and c ourteous of your neighbors’ right to reasonable peace. If we can keep these issues in mind and abide by these laws we can continue to enjoy this wonderful place to live.
