HomeMy WebLinkAbout06Mayor's Newsletter - June 2015
Greetings,
June 1, 2015
What a beautiful day this first day of June is promising to be. We had a fairly wet May which
has provided for a green looking city. Our reservoirs have been replenished which is a great
blessing. Water is a resource we need to treasure and care for constantly. Let us all be
conservative in our use of water.
Memorial at City of Chubbuck
Memorial Day weekend provided many opportunities for us to honor those who have given
their lives in defense of our county and its attendant liberties. I hope that each of us found a
way that worked for us to show the proper respect for our fallen soldiers. The "Field of
Hero's" at Century High School was a humbling event again this year. May we continue to
show our gratitude for such sacrifice by the proper use of the freedoms we enjoy.
Another year of school has concluded and the kids are out for their summer vacation. We
need to be sure that in our travels we remember to watch for the young one and drive
carefully so as that all will be safe. I hope you all have some great things planned to
accomplish with your personal and family time these summer months. We need to be aware
that in our free time there are opportunities of service all around us.
Panera Bread has announced that it will build in our area, over by the Red Lobster. I am
quite sure that this is just the first of several announcements we will receive this summer of
new businesses coming to the Chubbuck area. Deseret Book has moved to a new location
in the Pine Ridge Mall. If you have not seen their new store plan to make a visit soon. Our
mall needs our patronage to succeed.
Z '*— As you are aware from our announcement a couple of months ago Steve
Smart, our public works director, is retiring effective August 31. We have hired his
replacement and want to welcome Rodney Burch as the new director of public works.
Rodney is the owner of Dioptra a land surveying company and has been about the process
of divesting his self from this wonderful company. He will be on board with the city full-time
next month. He brings a wealth of experience with him and will be a great addition to the
staff of the City of Chubbuck.
We are busy trying to secure federal funding, thru a TIGER Grant, so that we can get work
going on Chubbuck's portions of the 1-15 Siphon Interchange. If successful we would
receive $10million to accomplish this project. What wonderful opportunities this Interchange
will bring to our fair city. Many individuals have been putting forth their best efforts to see
this come to fruition.
Thank you to the citizens of Chubbuck for making this area one of the best on the earth to
live and raise a family. I consider it an honor to live here. May I offer my very best to you
and yours as we move forward.
