Message from the Mayor:
As we approach the holidays this year our hope is that they will be pleasant for you and that they will be spent
with family and friends. At this time of the year many individuals and families look for ways to share with others. There
are many worthy organized efforts in our community to assist people in need during the Christmas Season. I hope during
this season of giving that you will choose one or more of these efforts to support with your time and or means. The gifts
of hope and love are certainly a cherished element and purpose of this holiday.
With the onset of winter weather, we again remind you to practice safe winter driving habits and be sensitive to those in
your neighborhood that may need a little extra help. Again, we extend our thanks in advance for your patience and cour-
tesy when we have a significant snow event. We have included the city snow policy on our website
(www.cityofchubbuck.us) as a reminder of how we need your cooperation for safe and efficient snow removal by city
employees and equipment. If you become aware of situations that the city should know, please contact us at 237-2430.
As the end of the year comes with its associated celebrations, we hope you find much to be thankful for. It is a great time
to get to know those who are new to your neighborhood and make sure they feel included. As a City, we wish you all a
Merry Christmas and the happiest of new years. The progress of this past year has made Chubbuck even a greater place
to live and do business. God bless you and your family.

Register Your Cell Phone for Reverse 911
It is very important that citizens register their cell phone with Reverse 911. The informa-
tion about this service and how to register is in the paragraphs below.
Reverse 911 is a telephone communi-
cations system used by law enforce-
ment agencies in Bannock County to
notify citizens of emergency situa-
tions which may impact them. For
example, the City of Chubbuck may
use this system to alert citizens of a
water shut-off order. The system
works by placing a large number of
telephone calls per minute which de-
liver a pre-recorded message to land-
line telephones within a selected geo-
graphic area. Landline telephones in
Bannock County are already set up to
receive reverse 911 notifications.
In order to receive reverse 911 noti-
fications on cell phones and VOID,
you must register your cell phone
and/or VOID information at the Ban-
nock County 911 Services website,
where you will find a link to
"Register Your Cell or VOIP Phone
for our Citizen Notification System the link for cell phone and VOIP reg -

link will take you to the registration
site. The web address for the registra-
tion site is www.bannockcounty.us/

The winter heating season is upon us, so it is a good time to remember the dangers of wood -burning appliances.
More than one-third of Americans use fireplaces, wood stoves, and other fuel -fired appliances as primary heat
sources in their homes. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the fire risks when heating with wood and solid
fuels.
Heating fires account for 36 percent of residential fires in rural areas every year. Often, these fires are due to creo-
sote buildup in chimneys and stovepipes. All home heating systems require regular maintenance to function safely
and efficiently.
Remember these simple safety tips:
Have your chimney or wood stove inspected and cleaned annually by a competent and qualified chim-
ney specialist.
Clear the area around the hearth of debris, decorations, and flammable materials.
Leave glass doors open while burning a fire. Leaving the doors open ensures that the fire receives
enough air to ensure complete combustion and keeps creosote from building up in the chimney.
Close glass doors when the fire is out to keep air from the chimney opening from getting into the room.
Most glass fireplace doors have a metal mesh screen which should be closed when the glass
doors are open. This mesh screen helps keep embers from getting out of the fireplace area.
Always use a metal mesh screen with fireplaces that do not have a glass fireplace door.
Install stovepipe thermometers to help monitor flue temperatures.
Keep air inlets on wood stoves open and never restrict air supply to fireplaces. Otherwise, you may
cause creosote buildup that could lead to a chimney fire.
Use fire-resistant materials on walls around wood stoves.
Have a safe and enjoyable year
