Message from the Mayor:
October 2008
The fairs have come and gone, school is well underway, football season has started, and the baseball playoffs are almost
set. All sure signs that autumn is in full swing. Our "Indian Summer" weather is probably my favorite with its vivid col-
ors, cool nights and warm days. Those who planted gardens are literally enjoying the fruit of their labors and in many in-
stances sharing with their neighbors. It is a great time of year.
We are currently winding down the projects we have been working on this summer. Our parks personnel are involved in
preparations for winter, as well as plans for the further development of a few new parks in the city. The Adams & Lucky
Street project will not be completely finished as planned until next year. However, the majority of the improvements will
be made this year, with completion planned for early summer 2009. We have completed the new maintenance facility, and
it is in full operation. This will not only provide the needed level of service we desire for our sanitation service, but up-
grade our maintenance ability for our entire city fleet to include our growth well into the future.
I would like to call your attention to the information piece that we have included in the newsletter from our police depart-
ment about crosswalk law. The city has marked and signed crosswalks on some of our major streets in the city to facilitate
safe crossing of these busy streets by pedestrians. Along with this reminder, we will be having the police provide some
focused enforcement to help ensure these crosswalks function as they should. We enlist your cooperation in this effort.
The Chubbuck-Pocatello Hockey Association is planning to install a temporary ice rink west of the current roller hockey
rink in Capell Park for use this winter. It is planned to be a forerunner of a more permanent ice sheet that will be installed
as funding permits. They have purchased a "Zamboni" to groom the ice and, weather permitting, hope to provide this new
dimension of skating and hockey this winter.
I am continually reminded of how grateful I am to live in this place in the world. The best part of living here is the people.
I really appreciate you. Let's all continue to make Chubbuck a wonderful place to live and do business!
