The warm days, cool nights, changing leaves, and final harvest of our gardens are nice after a long, hot summer. We hope for a good water year this winter, but will enjoy this pleasant fall weather while it lasts. The City is now under contract to proceed with the 2°a half of the Knudsen Boulevard project. Parsons Construction was the low bidder. They are anxious to begin and get as much as possible done before the end of this construction year. When completed, it will connect Yellowstone and Hawthorne with a traffic signal being located at both intersections. We believe that this will provide a significant improvement to the traffic patterns in the City as well as encourage com- mercial development in that area. Because of the high fire danger, the City has had a burn ban in place for most of the summer. As of the 28th of Sep- tember, both Chubbuck and Pocatello will allow open burning within the city limits with a burn permit. Recreational burning will be allowed without a permit in the city limits but the fire can only be 3' in diameter and 2' tall or in a deco- rative outside fireplace. As yard projects are completed and we get our property ready for winter, it is important to re- member that if you anticipate doing any burning, check with the fire department to get a permit along with a copy of any pertinent regulations. They can provide you with the necessary information. I am continually reminded of how grateful I am to live in this place in the world. The best part of living here is the people. I really appreciate you. Let's all continue to make Chubbuck a wonderful place to live and do business! Note From Our Police Department Winter will soon be upon us and as the weather turns cold and the snow begins to fly we would like to give a friendly reminder to all about parking and snow removal. Please be courteous to your neighbors and customers by removing snow and ice from walk ways, side- walks and parking lots. City code (Ord: 08-28-030) requires owners or renters of properties to provide "all weather passage" to pedestrians, which means you must shovel your snow. Yes! You can be cited for not shoveling your snow! Additionally, we ask that those who plow, shovel or blow snow into city streets not to do so. Please place your snow on your property and not upon the city street sides. Winter parking becomes a problem when those who park on the streets (legally and illegally) are in the way of snow removal equipment. We ask that citizens park all vehicles off the street if at all possible during winter to facilitate snow removal. If a snow emergency is declared by the mayor, those who fail to remove their vehicle may have it towed to an alternate location and face paying a tow bill. If we can abide by these laws we can continue to enjoy this wonderful place to live. You may clarify these codes by going to http//www.cityofchubbuck.us/cpd/codeenforcement.aspx or by calling 237-7172 asking for code enforcement. Water Conservation at IHCme Go low -flow. Save thousands of gallons each year by replacing old toilets with ultra-low toilets that use 1.6 gallons per flush or less._ Be a drip detective. Check all your faucets, toilets, and appliances for water leaks and fix them. A leaky faucet could waste as much as 1,225 gallons of water per year. Sing in the rain. A full bathtub requires 70 gallons of water, while taking a five-minute shower under a low -flow shower - head uses 10 to 25 gallons. Turn it down. The average bathroom faucet runs at the rate of 2 gallons of water per minute. Try running water at less than full flow. Turn the water off while you floss and brush your teeth. The right equipment for the job. Water -efficient toilets, bathroom faucets, and accessories can save the average home more than 11,000 gallons per year. Fill'er up. Running the dishwasher or washing machine when they are only half full uses just as much water as full loads. Between the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry chances are there's a lot of water flowing through the pipes in your home — and plenty of opportunities to waste it. With, just a little effort, you can save thousands of gallons of watereveryyear. And that's good foryour wallet, the environment, and our planet.
