City of Chubbuck Newsletter
Vol. S Issue 9 September 2010
Message from the Mayor:
We extend a special thanks to anyone who participated in any way in our Chubbuck Days Celebration this year.
Both the parade and festival were bigger and better than ever, well attended and fun. We again found the helicopter
rides to be a great success and expect that they will be back next year. We scheduled next year's celebration on the
second Saturday in August, which in 2011 is August 131. Put it on your calendar now and plan to participate.
School has started, and we would like to remind you to be aware of children and reduced speed limits around the
schools. Speed limits in school zones will be enforced. The school zone signs and flashers at both Chubbuck and
Ellis schools have been programmed to function during the times and days that children may be present and speed
should be reduced. Please be observant of these areas, as well as anywhere school children may be. Thank you for
this courtesy.
Thanks for your patience with the Yellowstone road widening project. There have been some unanticipated delays.
I have seen a recent schedule for finishing the project, and it should be open by the middle of October. The sewer
project is moving along close to the anticipated schedule and should conclude sometime in the summer or fall of
2011.
We hope the material that these newsletters provide is informative and useful. We welcome suggestions on what to
consider making part of the newsletter or ways that we could improve the city website. The phone number to call is
237-2400, and the e-mail address is wwtiv.citvofchubbuck.us. Thanks for helping make Chubbuck such a great place
to live and do business.

Business license requirements in the
City of Chubbuck have been around
almost as long as the city. The Village
of Chubbuck was incorporated in
1949, and the first license was enacted
by Ordinance No. 4 on May 8th, 1951,
for coin-operated amusements. Then,
on June 12th, 1953, Ordinance No. 20
approved the licensing for vendors
entering the city. Later, the occupa-
tional business license was approved
by Ordinance No. 33 on January 10th,
1956. We have had business licenses
ever since.
The city municipal code requires that
all people doing business in Chubbuck
have a city business license, regard-
less of their physical address. This
helps to ensure that the zoning is cor-
rect for each particular business use.
Furthermore, it provides a way to
Water Is Free
make sure that any buildings used by
the business are safe and meet fire and
building codes.
If someone is running a business out
of his/her home, there are regulations
for what types of activities can be
done. Home businesses require that
the work needs to be done in the home
and by the occupants of the home
only. Businesses that do not change
the residential character of the
neighborhood are the only ones per-
mitted in a residential neighborhood.
A visit with the city planner can help
someone determine whether his/her
particular business fits the guidelines.
Viewing city code can also be helpful
and can be done online at
www.cityofchubbuck.us. Just follow
the link on the home page menu to the
City Code Viewer.
The business license provides our citi-
zens a way of knowing that some ba-
sic checks have been completed. It
helps the business by providing assur-
ance to the citizens that the owner,
manager and solicitors have passed a
basic background check, if they are
licensed by the city.
All businesses in Chubbuck are re-
quired to post their city business li-
cense. You should be able to see the
license or ask to see it at any time.
A business license application can be
picked up from the Public Works De-
partment. If you are wondering
whether or not a certain business is
licensed, you can call the Chubbuck
City Planner at 237-2430 to find out.

Put a barrel under the spout,
Collect the rain the clouds give out. Your water works adds this last line:
While it's falling, don't be placid; Delivery is where we shine.
Some of those drops are full of acid. We can't sell water because it's free.
We sell pressure and purity.
With a bucket you can bring

Put muddy water in a kettle.
Leave it for the mud to settle.
But that won't get rid of everything,
Better add a shot of chlorine.
Build a dam across a creek
And do it well so it won't leak.
Then lay a pipe, the cost ain't hay
Be sure to get a right-of-way.
