Vol. I Issue 6
Message from the Mayor:
August 2006
Welcome to summer in Idaho! Even though we have our weather extremes occasionally, it is great to live
where the seasons change, and we know that if a particular few days is unpleasant it will pass. Please re-
member the cautions and tips associated with hot weather. Wise water use, pet safety, air conditioner us-
age, and drinking plenty of fluids are a few of the things to consider. If you have an elderly neighbor, espe-
cially one who lives alone, it would be beneficial to be aware of them. Thanks for all you do to be good
neighbors.
I hope you will participate with us this year in our Chubbuck Days parade and festival. Check out the re-
verse of this newsletter for some of the activities that are being planned. Our city is changing and growing,
and this is a great way to have some wholesome, family -friendly fun and get to know each other at the same
time. I know summer weekends are busy, but I am sure you will be well rewarded for your attendance.
COME JOIN US!!
Just a note of caution about the open canals in the city. They are necessary to provide irrigation, as you
know. They should NEVER be considered a source of recreation. There are a variety of issues involved
with piping all of them, not the least of which is cost. We would welcome suggestions that would help us
make them as safe as possible. We have recently installed a fence in Cotant Park that helped limit canal
accessibility there. Please help by reminding children whom you have influence with of the dangers.
Enjoy the rest of the summer! Thanks for all you do to help make Chubbuck and great place to live and do
business.
Mayor England
Hockey Arena Will Bring Commerce
Since 2004, when the local
hockey association lost its facil-
ity to the Lowe's Home Center
development, Jim DiSanza has
been a spokesman for developing
an even better in-line hockey rink
at a new location. After raising
funds and working out a deal
with the City of Chubbuck, the
Chubbuck-Pocatello Hockey As-
sociation announced this June
that the new regulation hockey
complex will be located in Capell
Park at the end of East Park
Lawn Drive.
Over the next three to five years,
this two-phase project is planned
to become a large indoor public
venue with a regulation in-line
hockey rink and a regulation ice
hockey rink, joined in the middle
with a concession area and locker
rooms. Hockey players from as
far away as
of Canada and
0 J, Colorado will
be attracted
to Chubbuck.
® for tourna-
ments.
Mayor Eng-
land believes this unique project
will promote economic develop-
ment for our community. Tax
increment financing funds are
being used as seed money, which
has allowed us to already break
ground to construct the concrete
pad and lighting system. This
part of the first construction
phase will be open to skaters as
well as in-line hockey teams by
August or September.
The Chubbuck-Pocatello Hockey
Association will also be hosting a
youth dance and hockey demon-
stration at the Capell Park arena
on Saturday, August 12`h, for
Chubbuck Days, which will be-
gin at 7:30 p.m. Come out and
see this great addition to our city!
First, our Parade begins at 10:00 AM. It will travel down Chubbuch Road from Hiline
to Ponderosa and end up at Cotant Parlez. Our Idaho Army National Guard is back
from Iraq and will be represented in the parade, which will also include floats, horses,fi
cheerleaders, music, classic cars and lots of candy.
--C Then, at 11:00 the Cotant Park Festival begins, and Mayor England has arranged more
\yam fun than ever before. At the time this newsletter is being printed, the signup sheets are still
arriving. In addition to food booths, lookz for free water melon to enjoy. And just finish
reading this page for information on several excellent demonstrations by our local athletic
and musical talent.
