HomeMy WebLinkAbout08A Vol. 7Issue 8 Message from the Mayor: City of Chubbuck Newsletter August 2012 It seems as though summer just began and now school is just a few weeks away from starting again. It has been a hot, dry summer with several reminders of how a spark in these conditions can quickly turn to disaster. We express our appreciation to the Chubbuck Fire Department in representing the City in their response to these fires. Also thanks to our residents as they rallied with others in our Community to support those who had such severe losses. Please be very aware and careful as we continue thru this fire season. Chubbuck Days will be the second week in August again this year, with the parade and festival at Cotant Park being the culminating event on Saturday the 11th. We have included information about the activities in this newsletter. We thank the area businesses as well as individuals and organizations who are assisting in the success of our event this year. Kent and Marie Kearns are our Grand Marshalls this year. Kent was a very effective and dedicated member first of our Land Use and Development Commission and then as a City Councilman. His initial involvement on the City Coun- cil came during a difficult time for the city. Councilman Dean Wood was killed in a tragic auto accident and Kent was appointed to finish his term. He was a valuable asset to the City during his ensuing time in office. A lot of city employ- ees have contributed to Chubbuck Days in various ways. I encourage you to express your appreciation as the opportunity presents itself. There is additional information in this newsletter on several other issues of importance for you as residents. We would encourage you to look through them and participate as they pertain to you. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further clarification or information about these items. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Drive carefully in your vacation travels so you can make it safely back to Chubbuck --- THE GREAT PLACE TO LIVE AND DO BUSINESS. Water is the original health drink. With no calories, no cholesterol, no caffeine and no fats or sug- ars, every glass of water you drink nourishes you body and mind. Drink Often. Drink a glass of water with each meal and between each meal. Water helps digest food and prevent acid indiges- tion. Water, water everywhere. Juice, milk and soft drinks, as well as fresh vegetables and fruits, all contain water and can supply some of you daily intake requirements. Avoid beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol because they can act as diuretics and won't help maintain your body's fluid balance. More is Less. Most weigh -loss programs call for drinking a healthy amount of water every day to help process food and counter act hunger attacks. We often fell hungry when we are dehydrated. Drinking a glass of a water can alleviate hunger pangs. A healthy glow. Drinking enough water is important to the health of your skin. Drinking plenty of water helps remove the toxins that build up in your pores and keeps your skin from drying out. Your survival depends on it. A human can last longer without food than without water. Depending on a variety of factors, you can survive from 3 to 6 weeks without food, but only 2 to 10 days without water. Drink up? You should consume the equivalent of about eight 8 -ounce glasses of water every day to stay ' healthy. About 60 percent of the adult human body is water, so you need to replace the fluids that you lose through you breath, perspiration, and excretion. ri North Bannock County Fair August 13th to 18th COME ONE, COME ALL to the GOOD OLD DAYS at the North Bannock County Fair in Poca- tello August 13-18, 2012 at the fairgrounds.
