Vol. I Issue S
Message from the Mayor:
July 2006
I hope you are enjoying a "good ole summertime"! With all that there is to do in longer days and good weather,
be sure to find time for family, friends and neighbors. I attended a neighborhood potluck dinner at Stuart Park
that was initiated by a couple of the families in our neighborhood, then invitations taken to each home. What a
great idea. I met folks I didn't know. It doesn't take much time, but can have a great result. Especially with so
many new developments in the city, I recommend it.
I would like to draw your attention to two of the items noted in the newsletter this month. First, please plan to
join us in this year's celebration of Chubbuck Days. It will be a family event with, as they say, fun for children of
all ages. I think you will be pleased with the changes and additions that we have planned.
Also, I would like to draw special attention to the recognition given to officers of our Police Department. We are
very fortunate to have the caliber of individuals serving the city in this Department that we do. We sometimes
have large city problems, which they are asked to address with a small city staff and budget. If you get a chance
to thank them, please do.
We are just completing an additional parking area at the city offices to better serve you. We invite you to stop by
and see the improvements. Please let us know of ways that we might improve our service. We hope you agree
that Chubbuck is a great place to live and do business.

XERIS13ARING
This word, originally a trademark of the
Denver, Colorado Water Department,
comes from the Greek "xeros," meaning
dry. Water -smart landscaping is a mat-
ter of choosing plants that will thrive
under given conditions, and grouping
them together. As you study your yard,
divide it into water use zones. Where
does the sun shine and for how long
each day? What kind of soil do you
have and how does it drain?
In xeriscaping, the 'basis" zone is clos-
est to the house and hardscaped areas.
The oasis should be the smallest zone,
since it will require more frequent wa-
tering and maintenance, particularly if it
is on a sunny side.
A simple way to reduce the amount of
lawn care and water use is to increase
shade. Doing so will also cool your
house by as much as 50%. In addition,
trees serve as windbreaks and shield
homes from snow, lowering heating
costs as much as 30%. Dozens of color-
ful flowers, shrubs, and attractive
ground covers are available to complete
your landscaping in low-water and low -
maintenance species.

to spay or neuter

In our democratic form of government, city employees are public servants. We are anxious to serve you the best
way we can. There are many maintenance and operational problems that are faced daily, City employees find
many of these problems and take care of them before citizens become aware of them, Other times, you may
spot something we have missed. We encourage you to tell us about these problems, so we can fix them for you.
There are also times you might wish to pass on a good word to city workers. We invite you to use this form to "Tell It
