HomeMy WebLinkAbout06City of Chubbuck Vol. I Issue 4 June 2006 Message from the Mayor: It feels good to make the adjustments to warm weather. Thanks to all who actively participated in the Spring Clean-up activities. We would welcome any suggestions for enhancing, changing or improving this annual pro- ject. Please feel free to stop by during business hours, drop us a note in the mail, or contact us by using the e- mail address on the website 0%v<v<v.cityofchubbuck.us). With the growth we are experiencing as a city, we will be altering the garbage collection schedule starting the first full week of June. The new schedule is included in this newsletter. We hope it is understandable, but if you have questions about your particular circumstance, please contact us. Since it has been an item of community interest, perhaps I should comment on the "taco bus". The city staff has been working for over a year to help the owner transition his business to a restaurant. The license that he has been working under does not include the amenities or public safeguards that a permanent eating estab- lishment should have. It is our desire to assist him, while being fair to other business owners (present and future) and safeguarding the public. We hope to come to a solution that will work for everyone. Have a safe and happy summer. With new homes and neighborhoods being established throughout the city, we invite you all to get to know your new neighbors. Chubbuck is a great place to live and do business. NEW GARBAGE PICKUP SCHEDULE ®r Begins June 5th Be sure to check the enclosed street list to see what day you are assigned. Mayor England Sticky Subject Every year, we get calls about waste stuck in the bottom of the garbage cart that did not come loose when it was dumped. The best way to prevent gar- bage from sticking is to bag everything you put in the cart. This is a great way to make use of those leftover plastic grocery bags. Of course, you might want to use something larger for those grass clip- pings. Grass clippings are notorious for sticking solidly in the cart. Bagging not only prevents smelly goo from coating the container, it also keeps trash from flying away as it is dumped out into the truck. Another tip is to spray the bottom of the cart with cooking spray to keep trash from sticking. Washing out a dirty cart is the last thing anyone would want to be doing on Saturday, so we hope these hints save you some cleaning time! YIELD TO LEFT - GO RIGHT -DON'T STOP Roundabouts are another form of intersection that takes the place of signaled or stop -signed intersec- tions. They do not work at all like 4 -way -stop intersections. The only priority rule is that drivers inside the roundabout have the right-of-way over any driver entering the round- about from the outside legs. You may have to stop at the yield sign if traffic is heavy. Oncoming traffic in the roundabout will always come from the left, since all roundabouts have traffic flow in a counterclockwise direc- tion. Roundabouts work much like a "free right on red" intersection. Your turn is determined by traffic flow. When there is a safe opening, you are free to enter the circle. You ,E V can slow to allow another vehicle to enter the circle, but never stop unless you are avoiding a collision. Maneuvering a roundabout can be summarized easily. The oncoming driver approaches the yield line, looks for conflicting traffic in the roundabout coming from the left, chooses an acceptable gap in the traffic flow, and then enters the roundabout with a right turn. Once inside the roundabout, a driver con- tinues counterclockwise until reach- ing the desired exit. All exits are right turns. Use the right -turn signal to let other drivers, bicycles and pedestrians know that you are exiting the roundabout at the next exit. You should not stop in the roundabout -it would proba- bly cause an accident. Smooth op- eration of traffic through a round- about relies on continuous flow around the center. Courteous driv- ers in the roundabout may slow to allow other traffic to enter the roundabout. Please go to the following address at the City of Chubbuck website for this information and much more regarding driving roundabouts: www.citvofchubbuck.us/home/ new.html or, from the Home page at www.cityofchubbuck.us, choose City Departments, then click on Public Works (from the list on the left), then click on Streets, then scroll down to the bottom and click on Roundabouts.
