Message from the Mayor:
May 2006
I am writing this letter on the morning of April 17`h. Hopefully, as you are reading this, all of the
unexpected snow is just a memory, and we are enjoying pleasant spring weather. It does give credence to
the old adage: "If you don't like the weather in Idaho, just wait a few minutes, and it will change."
These unexpected weather changes that sometimes cause damage and/or power outages do remind us of
the need to personally prepare for emergencies. It is important that, in the case of a disaster, each
individual is prepared as much a possible to care for themselves and their immediate family for as least 72
hours. This includes food, transportation, shelter, water, heat, and first aid supplies. In the case of an
extreme disaster, outside help may not be readily available or be very limited. We would also encourage
you to be aware as neighbors and look out for one another, especially those who are elderly or have special
needs. There are many places on the internet that can give you good suggestions on emergency
preparation plans.
On a cheerier note, we hope that you're well underway with plans for a fantastic spring and summer in
Chubbuck (or wherever you may be planning to travel). We're glad to have you as neighbors and hope you
agree that Chubbuck is a great place to live and do business!

Sixth Annual Spring Cleanup - May 6th
We are happy to announce Saturday, May 6`h as the
day both Chubbuck and Pocatello will proclaim as
City Wide Cleanup Day. Chubbuck is a great place
to live, and our community pride is reflected in
neighborhood cleanliness and appearance. While the
City can provide support in removing any trash or
yard debris that is collected, we need your help. We
invite everyone in town to clean up their own
property, and also to pitch in on neighborhood
efforts. Some adjustments were made this year to
help the event go smoothly. We will have more roll -
offs and more attendants at just two sites. Here's our
plan:
Oversized Roll -off Containers - Please make
good use of the roll -off containers, generously
contributed by Snake River Dispose -All, at the two
locations listed below. But please, do not abuse the
service by throwing in hazardous or restricted waste.
.... .
Container Sites:
City Hall 5160 Yellowstone *branch chipping*
Cotant Park Victor & Teton
..................................................................
Group Cleanup Projects - Citizens unite!
We encourage any group to gather up and bag litter
on May 6th (or right before). If it won't fit in your
garbage cart, you could put them into the oversized
roll -off containers provided by Snake River
Dispose -All at the two locations listed above. If
necessary, put the bags of litter out near the curb,
call and our City crew will pick them up on
Monday.
Branch Chipping - Since tree or bush branches
fill up the roll -offs quickly, the City will be
prepared to run them through the chipper for you at
City Hall. The bases of the branches can be no
more than 6 inches in diameter. Please bring them
to the City site and our attendant will chip them.
Whether you can clean only your yard or an entire
neighborhood, your effort will be appreciated.
Normally, it costs you money to dump trash at the
county landfill. Don't miss this opportunity!
Yellow Arrow Signal Lights
In a cooperative effort to improve traffic flow in
Pocatello and Chubbuck, the cities and the Idaho
Transportation Department have installed signal heads
with flashing yellow arrows at fifteen intersections. The
flashing yellow arrow signal heads improve traffic flow
by allowing vehicles to make left turns through gaps in
the opposing traffic without stopping that traffic. The
flashing yellow arrow tells the driver that they may
cautiously make a left turn after yielding to oncoming
traffic.
Bad News: Did you know it is a violation of city code to dump
yourgrass clippings outside your property?
Good News: Bannock County Landfill has a COMPOST pRo fECT
that will take them! Call 236-0607 for information.
finally, it feels like spring. The
warm weather reminds us
that children will be playing
in the parks, riding their bikes,
and occasionally in the
roadways, Encourage your
children to use either the
sidewalks or the paths around
our city parks for bike riding. If
Your children are in the streets,
remind them to always watch
for traffic and to always wear a
helmet, Be aware of little ones
while you are driving your
vehicles and always be aware
of your speed. All Chubbuck
residential streets are posted for
20 MPH,
Warmer weather also means
children will be out playing later
POLICE DEPARTMENT
in the evenings and sometimes
after dark. Curfew is 10;30 PM, if
your child is 15 years old or
younger, and midnight for 16 to
17 year-olds. Of course, if the
child is with a parent this would not
apply,
We have also had reports of graffiti
in different areas throughout town,
If you see anyone involved in this
type of activity, please call
immediately. It is very unsightly
and damages property,
Effective April 15m, you must have
a residential parking permit to park
on Victor or Teton Streets adjacent
to Cotant Park. This is to help the
residents who live along those
roads to have parking available to
them during the summer
season.
Also effective April 15m, you
must have your studded tires
removed from your vehicles.
Keeping the studded tires on
after that date is a violation of
state law and a safety hazard.
At high speeds on dry
Pavement, the studs in the
tires will heat up and cause
excessive tire wear, loss of
traction and damage to the
roadways.
