Vol. 4 Issue 4
Message from the Mayor:
April 2009
Spring in Idaho can be a real tease. It can and does provide a variety of weather conditions. It makes us anxious for
warmer days, budding trees, greening lawns and the splash of color from spring's first flowers. As noted later in this
newsletter, the city will be providing branch chipping again this year. We branch chip to help you get your yard spruced
up for summer and also to participate in the community wide clean up day on Saturday May 2" d
I am pleased to announce we have exceeded our goal of 350 sign-ups for the curbside recycling program and will move
ahead with our implementation plans. Our hope is to begin the service in June. For those who have enrolled, we thank
you and ask that you to continue to encourage others to participate as well. For those who were intending to sign up for
recycling, but have not yet done so, both the office and website options are still available. The greater number we have
involved, the more efficient and cost effective the program will become.
Along with our discussion of Spring Cleanup and recycling, another issue has been brought to my attention for which I
would like to enlist your help. Because of the nature of our automated garbage collection, the driver does not have the
ability to see the container as it is emptied. Consequently, if there are any loose or lightweight items such as paper, or
even worse, shredded paper, it can blow back out of the truck as it moves down the street. This problem can be allevi-
ated by bundling or bagging items rather than putting them into the cart loose. Your help with this problem would be
very much appreciated by all who enjoy a clean community.
From my view, I am very optimistic about both the short and long term future of our city. I am grateful for our citizens
and for what I see as a cooperative effort to move us forward. Even in difficult times, Chubbuck continues to be a great
place to live and do business.

from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Capell Park rink on Park
Lawn Drive. Adult hockey teams are available too.

Branch Chipping
As a courtesy, each spring season the
Maintenance Department will come to
your home and chip smaller branches
trimmed from bushes or trees until the
end of June. These branches must be no
more than 4 inches in diameter at the
base and must be placed in your front'
yard behind the sidewalk.
When you are ready, just call Public
Works at 237-2430, and we will put you,
on our list for chipping. Our Maintenance`
crew normally makes the chipping rounds
on Monday. Remember,' this service is
only'. through June 30th! Also consider
the Spring Cleanup on May '2nd for get-
ting ,your property looking great.
SPRING CLEANUP -
We are happy to announce Saturday, May 2nd
as the day both Chubbuck and Pocatello pro-
claim as City Wide Cleanup Day. Chubbuck is
a great place to live, and our community pride
is reflected in neighborhood cleanliness and
appearance. While the City can provide sup-
port in removing any trash or yard debris that is
collected, we need your help. We invite every-
one in town to clean up their own property, and
also to pitch in on neighborhood efforts.
Here's our plan:
Oversized Roll -off Containers
Please make good use of the roll -off containers
at the two locations listed below. But please,
do not abuse the service by throwing in hazard-
ous or restricted waste.

Group Cleanup Projects
Citizens unite! We encourage any group to
gather up and bag litter on May 2nd (or right
before). If it won't fit in your garbage cart, you
could put them into the oversized roll -off con-
tainers
Branch Chipping
Since tree or bush branches fill up the roll -offs
quickly, the City will be prepared to run them
through the chipper for you at City Hall. The
bases of the branches must be less than six
inches in diameter. Please bring them to the
City site and our attendants will chip them.
Whether you can clean only your yard or an
entire neighborhood, your effort will be appre-
ciated. Normally, it costs you money to dump
trash at the county landfill. Don't miss this op-
portunity! To get rid of anything poisonous,
flammable, hazardous, corrosive or explosive.
on May 2nd, visit the Bannock County Land-
fill.
