City of Chubbuck Newsletter
Vol. 2 Issue 3 March 2007
Message from the Mayor:
This is the time of year that the "doldrums" or "ho -hums" can set in. The holiday season is past, bills come due,
the days are still short, and winter can become tiresome. Even the news that the groundhog didn't see his
shadow doesn't give much encouragement, since statistically he is only right 39% of the time. Just remember
that life is good, there is much to be thankful for, and that spring is just around the corner.
Our regular baseball and girls' softball registrations will be conducted in March. Besides the reminder of the
schedule in this newsletter, there are informational signs out around the city. We have received word that the
Roller Hockey rink will soon see activity. We will be including a schedule of their initial programs in next
month's newsletter. In addition, we are going to partner with ISU Athletics to have their Women's Softball Team
play their home games in our softball complex at Capell Park from the end of March through April. We will in-
clude more information and scheduling of their games in our next newsletter, as well.
The 2007 Simplot Games have just concluded. I hope you got involved in some way. What a great opportunity
it is for our community to host this event. If you have never been or haven't been for a while, I encourage you to
be there next time. The Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo is coming to the Holt Arena in March, which is an-
other event that is spectacular and worthy of your support and attendance. These two competitions do a great
deal to put our area of the world on the map in a very positive way.
We have a great economic development team working on our behalf in the community. The announcements by
HOKU Manufacturing in the past few weeks are very encouraging. I believe that we can and will see more posi-
tive and progressive accomplishments in the near future. We are remaining engaged in every way we can as a
city to help move things forward and to plan for the effect that they will have on us. I believe this will make
Chubbuck an even better place to live and do business.

Water Is Free
Wherever you find it, water is free
Deep in a well or out of the sea.
Get all you want wherever you go;
Read the simple directions below.
Put a barrel under the spout,
Collect the rain the clouds give out.
While it's falling, don't be placid;
Some of those drops are full of acid
With a bucket you can bring
All you want from pond or spring.
But watch for wiggler or bacillus;
Some of those bugs are sure to kill us.
Put muddy water in a kettle.
Leave it for the mud to settle.
But that won't get rid of everything,
Better add a shot of chlorine.
Build a dam across a creek
And do it well so it won't leak.
Then lay a pipe, the cost ain't hay.
Be sure to get a right-of-way.
Dig a hole both deep and round;
That's where lots of water's found.
Pumps are needed, so are tanks.
You pay for them with more than thanks.
Your water works adds this last line:
Delivery is where we shine.
We can't sell water because it's free.
We sell pressure and purity.

NEW BUILDING GROWTH
Did you know only 63 •
homes were
built in Chub -
buck before
1939? The
U.S. Census
figures tell us
the biggest
boom was in
the 1970s
when 1,261
homes were
built. But in •
the last few years, our
growth has
hit new highs.
According to building per-
mits issued:
The total valuation of
all new building activity
more than doubled after
2003 and has not looked •
back for the last three
years.
• The number of new liv-
ing units has increased
from 82 in 2001 to 160
in 2003 and to 334 in
2006. Out of 334 new •
units, 283 were single
family homes.
Pheasant Ridge Town-
house development has
constructed 280 living
units since 2003 and is
now nearly complete.
Completely new com-
mercial buildings de-
clined a bit; from 21 to
13 since 2004, commer-
cial remodels and tenant
improvements in existing
structures have more
than picked up the slack.
Sunset West Subdivision
located west of Philbin
Road, was annexed into
the city with 34 new
homes, some existing
and some still under
construction.
The Idaho Central Credit
Union four story office
headquarters building is
nearly complete.
