HomeMy WebLinkAbout03City of Chubbuck Newsletter March 2009 Vol. 4 Issue 3 Message from the Mayor: Despite concerns and negativity surrounding our lives right now, I hope we can all spend some time finding the positives in our lives. Just remember that life is good, there is much to be thankful for, and spring is just around the corner. We are ready to move to the next step of consideration of curbside recycling. We received about 250 survey responses, and the majority were positive. Included in this newsletter is more detailed information about the possible service, along with a sign up form. This form will authorize the city to add the additional $5.00 charge to your utility bill in the event that we are able pro- ceed with the service. We have provided the form on the back of this newsletter. You can complete and sign this form or come into the city offices to sign up. You can also print the form provided on the website at wydw ciiWfchubbuck.us, which must be completed, signed and returned to the city. We need a minimum of 350 sign ups by April P, for us to move forward and start the service. If we meet this goal, we should be able to begin collection in June. I hope those who are in favor of this effort will encourage others to participate. Our regular baseball and girls softball registrations will be conducted in March. Besides the reminder of the schedule in this newsletter, there are informational signs out around the city. The 2007 Simplot Games has just concluded. I hope you got involved in some way. What a great opportunity it is for our community to host this event. Please put it on your calendar for next year also. The DNCFR is coming again to the Holt Arena in March. This is another community event that is spectacular and worthy of your support and attendance. These two competitions do a great deal to put our area of the world on the map in a very positive way. I am sure we can and will see more positive and progressive accomplishments in our future. Even though economic activity has slowed, we are engaged in every way we can as a city to help move things forward and plan for better times. I believe this will make Chubbuck even a greater place to live and do business. Mayor England The massive Hiline Road and inter- state bridge reconstruction project is finally underway. You have likely seen the work being done to put Hiline Canal into an enclosed conduit. The project actually consists of three separate parts. First is reconstruction of the interstate bridges, second is the canal piping, and third is Hiline Road reconstruction. The Hiline Road portion is a Chub - buck project. The interstate bridges over Hiline Road are being rebuilt in order to accommodate a third lane each direction on I-86. The canal had to be piped in order to construct the HILIPIE ROAD PROJECT bridges, and the bridges needed to be reconstructed in order to allow the Hiline Road reconstruction. Hiline Road will be widened to a five -lane arterial road. The signal at Chubbuck & Hiline will be upgraded, and a roundabout intersection will be built at the intersection of Mountain Park Lane & Mallard Street. Canal piping will be complete by mid-April. Hiline Road and the sig- nal upgrade should be complete this construction season. The eastbound interstate bridge will be rebuilt this year and the westbound interstate bridge will be rebuilt next year. The City of Chubbuck received a con- siderable grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), which pays for nearly all of the Hiline Road reconstruction. Since it is under an FHA grant, all of the work is being administered by Idaho Transportation Department. The project contractor is required to maintain traffic along Hiline Road through the entire pro- ject. There will, of course, be some short term closures and much incon- venience until the project is complete. If you have any questions, please call Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Resident Engineer B at 239-3358 or 239-3361. The per- mit application does not necessarily mean that the project does not be- long in that zone, it just means the developer will need to answer ques- tions and satisfy the Land Use & Development Commission that the It may be possible to provide recycling service to . Chubbuck residents, if we can reach the goal of around 350 households committing to use the ser- vice. If this target is reached by April 1st, the city would begin service in June. You may also register at City Hall on Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM project will be compatible. It is also an opportunity for the city to im- pose requirements that help ensure that compatibility. For a more de- tailed description of the on criteria considered in the on conditional use permit ■■ application process, go to the City Code on our website at www.citvofchubbuck.us and review Title 18 Chapter 28.
