HomeMy WebLinkAbout03Vol. 7 Issue 3 Message from the Mayor, Connection City of Chubbuck Newsletter City Hall 5160 Yellowstone / PO Box 5604 237-2400 March 2012 This is the time of year that the "doldrums" or "ho -hums" can set in. The holiday season is past, bills come due, the days are still short, and winter can become tiresome. Even though winter this year has been a little hard to recognize, it does give us pause as to what we may have in store for the rest of the year. Just remember that life is good, there is much to be thankful for and spring is just around the corner. Our regular baseball, girl's softball, tiger and tee ball registrations are underway. Besides the reminder of the schedule in this newsletter, there are informational signs out around the city. The Chubbuck/Pocatello Hockey Association has had a struggle with predictable weather for their ice sheet. They were able to acquire the tubing that is necessary to eventually be able to add a chiller to the rink and that will provide more predictable ice. They continue to make the fa- cility available for community skaters when they temperature is cold enough for good ice and they are not having scheduled games or practices. I would certainly recommend that you drop by when you see activity at the rink and take a look at what they offer. We believe that this venue has a great future in our community. The 2012 Simplot Games has just concluded. I hope you got involved in some way. What a great opportunity it is for our community to host this event. Please put it on your calendar for next year and again be supportive. They had over 1900 student high school athletes from all over the country and Canada that participated this year. This is such a unique and dynamic event for our area and I would encourage you if you have never been or haven't been for a while make it a point to attending 2013. Since they opened for business last October, the new Allstate Service Center has hired over 100 employees and is add- ing more each month. They will provide more that 7 Million Dollars of payroll to the local economy by the end of the year. They plan to expand those numbers in the next 2-3 years to 500-600 jobs with an annual payroll of 18-21 Million Dollars. I believe that we can and will see more positive and progressive accomplishments. We are working and re- maining engaged in every way we can as a City to participate in these efforts. I believe this will make Chubbuck even a better place to live and do business. Mayor England 11th Annual Tech Expo Thursday, March 15, 2012 Inside Holt Arena. 9am to 1 pm & Evening sessions 5pm to 7pm. Admission is free. Branch Chipping As a courtesy, each spring season the 4 Maintenance Department will come to your home and chip smaller branches trimmed from bushes or trees. These branches must be no more than 4 inches in diameter at the base and must be placed in your front yard behind the sidewalk. When you are ready, just call Public Works at 237-2430, and we will put you on our list for chipping. Our Maintenance crew normally makes the chipping rounds on Monday.
