HomeMy WebLinkAbout02City of Chubbuclr Newsletter vol. 3 Issue 2 Message from the Mayor: February 2008 Well, hopefully the coldest part of our winter season is past. I don't think we ever get used to sub -zero temperatures. It does remind us of the importance of preparing for weather extremes whether they are cold, hot, snowy, rainy, windy or dry. We need to use the good and moderate times of the year to make preparations for the exceptional times. We are now two months into our change in garbage collection. Winter is probably the hardest time to de- liver efficient and effective collection. I believe our people and equipment have done well for the most part in meeting the challenges and providing a good customer oriented service. If you are experiencing any concerns as it relates to your service, please call the city at 237-2430 and let us help you. We have in- stalled two new fuel tanks to serve the sanitation trucks, and we will be working through the spring and summer to build a shop building big enough to house them for maintenance or repairs. I again express my appreciation to a citizenry that gets involved. Not every decision that needs to be made is black and white. I am confident that most of you, as do I, try to make them with the best long term inter- est of our city and community in mind. I feel very privileged to be working with you in making Chubbuck such a great place to live and do business. Mayor England BASEBALL REGISTRATION EARLY THIS YEAR! (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Campaign Coalition. The purpose is to increase awareness of the Earned In- come Tax Credit (EITC) and other credits during tax season for working individuals and families, and to link them to financial education and wealth - building programs. C, A al' EITC is a refundable federal tax credit. Statistics show that many people in eastern Idaho who qualify for the EITC do not apply. To learn more about the C.A.S.H. Campaign, contact Delverne Seaman, the Earned Income Tax Credit Coordinator with Partners for Prosperity, at 785-0059 or 251-5076. Partners for Prosperity and the C.A.S.H Campaign Coalition Many of you are familiar with our Cleanup Connection program that has provided a truck which can be filled with materials for the landfill such as yard debris. Now that the city owns large trash containers, the truck will no longer be used for this purpose, and we will be able to serve more customers. This program is for residential use only. As before, the program can be used once per year per household on a first come, first served basis. Customers can choose between a 3 -yard dumpster and a 30 -yard roll off container, depending on what they plan to discard. There are more restrictions on the 3 -yard dump- will also work to increase public awareness and utilization of no - cost tax services provided to low-income individuals, fami- lies and seniors by the Ameri- can Association of Retired Peo- ple (AARP). For dates, times, and locations of AARP tax preparation sites: Call the Idaho Careline by dialing 211 or call 1-888- AARPNOW. Or visit www.p4peid.org/cash. sters, because the truck that empties them must be able to compact the mate- rials. The 30 -yard roll off can haul things like tree stumps and mattresses, because it is handled differently. Tires, rocks, concrete, and hazardous waste are never allowed in any city trash con- tainers. The container will be delivered to your home on a Monday, Wednesday, or Fri- day and left for approximately 48 hours or over a weekend. To sign up for the Cleanup Connection program, just call Public Works at 237-2430 to check what dates are available, and we will help you with the arrangements. Coming Soon...
