We have been able to see progress in many different ways. I will review much of this in the State of the City message that I will prepare in January and have posted on the web site. A lot of what I was grateful for, as fall turned to winter this year, can be summed up in two words: Allstate and asphalt. There is no question that the addition of the Allstate Customer Call Center, along with the substantial completion of several infrastructure projects, will make a significant difference to the potential economic health and growth of our entire community. The ending of a year and the beginning of a new year are times when most people take stock of where they are and resolve to improve. As our collective future seems to be heading in a positive direction, it is my hope we can review all the good in our lives and begin the next year with a whole lot of opti- mism. I continue to become aware of things people do within the city that are very beneficial, but mostly go unrecognized. This kind of service means a great deal to the general well being of our city. Our goal as your city government is to enhance the desire to continue these acts of service and to help you be proud of the city in which you live. Chubbuck is a great place to live and do business. We wish you all a happy and prosperous 2011. Mayor England MODERN ROUNDABOUTS The Arizona Department of Transportation has an excellent website describing traffic flow in a modern roundabout. With the increase in communication technology that number of people has also in- creased. The Internet is a very common source. The mail con- - tinues to be a source for these scams. Whether through the Internet or the mail, or even a phone call, the old saying is really true: If it seems too good to be true, it most likely isn't true. Please consider the following before you respond to any of these solicitations. They are all strong indications that the offer is a scam: • Does it involve a foreign individ- ual, entity, or government? The authors of these schemes know that they are much safer from prosecution by law enforcement across international borders. The reality of it is that our local, state, and federal governmental agen- cies responsible for investigating and pursuing these indi- viduals have such an enormous case load that they have established mone- tary limits on the cases they will ac- cept. By the design of their in- ventors, the amounts in all the schemes are under those estab- lished limits. • After considerable research, the police department is not aware of any group, organization or gov- ernment that simply selects indi- viduals at random and awards them large sums of money. • If you haven't entered a lottery Tell It To City Hall by purchasing a ticket or a prod- uct that is advertised to be associ- ated with a lottery/sweepstakes (such as the famous Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes), it is a scam. • Don't be fooled by advance checks that look genuine check paper stock. With sophisticated computers and printers, anyone can print a very professional, genuine looking check. If you have any questions, call the Chubbuck Police Department at 237- 7172, and they will examine the noti- fication and help you to determine its authenticity. You may be disap- pointed to find out it is not a genuine windfall, but we would rather you be disappointed by that than by the loss of several hundred or several thou- sands of your dollars.
