Vol. S Issue 4
April 2010
Message from the Mayor:
March is a prime example of the old adage: If you don't like the weather in Idaho, just wait a few minutes, and it will
change. More predictably, the gathering of the 2010 US Census numbers has begun. If you have not completed the
form and sent it back, I encourage you to do so soon. The accuracy of this census effort will help shape much of the
planning, qualification, and funding for the next ten years until the next census. You can get additional information by
calling Wendy or Paul at the city offices 237-2430, or you can log on to the website at www.2010censLis.gov.
Let me just give some additional reminders. First, as the weather gets warmer and evenings longer, we always have
more children out in our parks and neighborhoods. The speed limit in our residential neighborhoods is 20 MPH.
Please be observant, not only of the speed limit, but also of children and their unpredictable behavior. Our neighbor-
hood parks are city features designed to accommodate youths. Please encourage them to use these facilities, rather than
playing games in the street. Safety is a practice that benefits us all.
Next, the news of natural disasters around the world reminds us of the need to personally prepare for emergencies. It is
important that each individual be prepared, as much as possible, to care for themselves and their immediate family for at
least 72 hours. This includes food, transportation, shelter, water, heat, and first aid supplies. In the case of an extreme
disaster, outside help may not be readily available or be very limited. We also encourage you to be aware as neighbors
and look out for one another, especially those who are elderly or have special needs. There are many places on the Inter-
net that can give you good suggestions for emergency plans.
On a cheerier note, we hope that you're well underway for plans for a fantastic spring and summer in Chubbuck (or
wherever you may be planning to travel). We're glad to have you as neighbors and hope you agree that Chubbuck is a
great place to live and do business!

Bill Guinn, our Parks & Recrea-
tion Superintendent, applied for
and was awarded an $8,000
grant for 2010 from the Ifft
Foundation Fund and Idaho
Community Foundation to de-
velop the path through the ra-
vine from Mary's Park on the
Washburn Street side to the park
strip along Brundage Street.
Last year, the Ifft Foundation
Fund awarded $10,000 to Parks
& Rec. This grant money pro-
vided the means to pave the
pathway at the bottom of the ra-
vine, which runs all the way
down to Mountain Park Road.
Youth groups from several
churches carved the trails, and
the parks crew planted donated
pine trees.
This year, the grant will buy
about thirty drought tolerant
trees and ten shrubs to help
beautify the area, and a Boy
Scout Eagle project will provide
the labor to plant them. The
walkways have turned this
wasted space into pleasant na-
ture trails and have connected
neighborhoods in a unique way.
Don't Get Yourself Into Hot Water III -
Fires can get out of control so very quickly, and this time of year people are considering burn-
ing yard materials or ditch banks. Please remember to visit the Chubbuck Fire Department at
4727 Yellowstone to apply for a burn permit, if you are planning an open burning project.
The permit lists the regulations you must follow and what materials may not be burned. It is
important to learn what unexpected factors may be involved in controlling your burn and in
preventing a fire disaster.
