HomeMy WebLinkAbout10Quarterly Newsletter Volume 10, Issue 4 CHUBBUCKOctober 2025 i n A u n Message from the Mayor: Friends, Summer has come and gone, and Fall is here. What a beautiful, peaceful time of year. It has been fun, and quite tasty to see what our gardening efforts have produced. There is nothing better than fresh cucumbers and tomatoes in a salad and fresh corn on the cob. One of my favorites from fall harvest is freshly dug potatoes. I have not yet grown them in my own gardening efforts, so I need to say thank you to the farmers who do all this work. Nobody in the world does a better job of growing delicious potatoes than the farmers in our area. One year when I was in Washington DC, I went to 5 Guys to buy a burger and the sign in the store said the potatoes from which they had made their fresh french fries were from a farm in Southeast Idaho. How fun. The City Council has worked hard over the last few years to free up more money with which to maintain our roads. Our Public Works Department has done a tremendous job in making those dollars go just as far as possible. I hope that each of you can see this work and how it benefits our whole community. Our budget process, which starts in February, went very smoothly. It took lots of work and lots of questions, but we produced a budget that serves our citizens, and all our city needs very well. With the change of seasons comes a change in temperature and weather conditions. Please be aware of these changes and look out for those in our city that may need some help with things like closing things up for winter and, dare I say, snow removal from our sidewalks. The elderly, and others with special needs, can use some timely help in this regard. I see these acts of love and service every year and it makes me proud to be part of such a caring community. Thank you each for all that you do, Mayor Kevin England October 2025 Important Dates to Remember Oct. 1-UtiliBill Due Oct. 1—Cityouncil Work Study/4PM Oct. 1 -City Council Meeting/6PM Oct. 14 -LDDC Meeting/6PM Oct. 15 -City Council Meeting/6PM Oct. 16 -Utility Bill Past Due *Oct. 18 -City Wide Cleanup & Branch Chipping Oct. 23-Chubbuck Red Cross Blood Drive *Oct. 31 -Halloween at Chubbuck City Hall November 2025 Important Dates to Remember Nov. 1 -Utility Bill Due **Nov. 4 -General Elections/8AM to 8PM Nov. 5—City Council Work Study/4PM Nov. 5 -City Council Meeting/6PM *Nov. Most of the electronics we use in our homes every day — smartphones, tablets, power and lawn tools, laptops, e -cigarettes, headphones, and toys, to name just a few — are powered by lithium -ion batteries. In fact, most everything that's rechargeable uses this type of battery. If not used correctly or if damaged, lithium -ion batteries can overheat, start a fire, or even explode. To reduce these risks, look around your home — it's important to know which devices are powered by them. This year's Fire Prevention Week campaign helps people understand the importance of using these batteries correctly to prevent fires in the home and to follow the Buy, Charge, and Recycle Safely approach." Charge into Fire Safety: 3 Steps Buy only listed products. • When buying a product that uses a lithium -ion battery, take time to research it. Look for a stamp from a nationally recognized testing lab on the packaging and product, which means that it meets important safety standards. • Many products sold online and in stores may not meet safety standards and could increase the risk of fire. Charge devices safely. • Always use the cords that came with the product to charge it. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer. • If you need a new charger, buy one from the manufacturer or one that the manufacturer has approved. • Charge your device on a hard surface. Don't charge it under a pillow, on a bed, or on a couch. This could cause a fire. • Don't overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it's fully charged. Recycle batteries responsibly. • Don't throw lithium -ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start fire. • Recycling your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location is the best way to dispose of them. Visit call2rec, cog to find a recycling spot near you. The Chubbuck Fire Department encourages all residents to be aware of their devices, follow the Buy, Charge, and Recycle Safely approach, and support this year's FPW theme, "Charge into Fire SafetyTM "
