COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
November 9, 1983
Minutes of a special meeting of the Council held in the city
municipal building, November 9, 1983.
Present: Councilmembers Becky A. Hopkins, Dwain A. Kinghorn,
Leroy S. Quick, Thomas S. Nield and City Clerk Ron C. Conlin.
Mayor John 0. Cotant, Jr. excused.
Meeting called to order by Councilman Quick at 5:00 p.m.
CANVAS OF ELECTION RESULTS - The election held November 8, 1983 was
for election of two Councilmembers for four year terms. The ballot _
box holding the supplies was unlocked and sealed envelope containing
Tally Book, Election Record and Poll Book, used ballots pads
plus pad with first unused ballot was opened. Councilmembers checked
Election Record and Poll Book, Combined Tally Lists and Official
Record Book and ballots and ballot pads.
After a thorough -,;-, canvas of the election records, Councilman Kinghorn
moved to accept the tabulation of votes as prepared by the Election
Judge and Clerks and proclaim the results as final. Councilman Nield
seconded motion, with an unanimous vote in favor of motion.
Tabulation of votes as follows: For Councilmembers; Steven M. England;
515. Becky A. Hopkins =418; Evan D. Byington =337; Sue Parrish =217;
Frank B. Rash =2; Richard Allen =4; Rick Hillman =l; Mark Bunce =l;
Micky Mouse =l; Merlin Phillips =l; Terry Briscoe =l.
Councilwoman Hopkins moved, Councilman Quick seconded with full council
approval to adjourn meeting at 5:45 p.m.
